Days 4, 5, 6, & 7

Wow, I'm behind! I can't remember all the details, so I'll stick to the highlights.

Day 4 - My first cheat
Day 4 was a little tough for me. Friday afternoon we had our department picnic for work. I was surrounded by hot dogs, hamburgers, and lots of desserts. I stuck to chili (1/2 vegetable, 1/2 beef). It was freakin' cold outside, so I also had some hot chocolate which happened to be made with milk. I only had a small cup, so I thought it would be ok. Other than that I was pretty good. Friday nights are always the nights that Marcus and I go out to dinner with each other. I look forward to yummy food on Friday nights. We were going to go to PF Changs which I was excited about, but the wait was too long and we had to settle for Ruby Tuesday in order to make our movie. I had boring grilled chicken and broccoli. I stared at the drink and dessert menu the entire time. To make things worse, we went to the movies and I couldn't get any candy. I had some almond cranberry natural bar as a substitute. Couldn't really touch SnowCaps. Thank God for Vince Vaughn. I was laughing so hard in the movie that I forgot about chocolate.

Day 5 - Rainy Day
Day 5 started out ok. I had to do a 3 mile walk for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in the morning. After the walk, I met Tracy, Matt, & Gavin for lunch at Mimi's. Mimi's is the perfect place to eat on a cold rainy day. They have delicious soups and yummy muffins. Wait, that's right, I can't have muffins! Crap! I decided to go with the egg white omelet and turkey sausage. Unfortunately, the turkey sausage was actually a huge turkey hamburger patty. Gross. Luckily, a low-fat blueberry muffin came with Tracy's meal. Wait, I can't have muffins and neither can Tracy. The muffin sat their and stared at me the entire meal. After my omelet I was still hungry so I ordered a cup of the naked french onion soup. Good, but still not what I needed. I NEEDED the muffin. I gave in and Tracy taunted me. Really, she did. If I could pick any adjective to describe her behavior, I would pick evil. I ended up eating the entire muffin top, not the entire muffin. Not too bad right?? Well, if the day ended their, no; however, it did not. After brunch, I went straight to the gym and ran my muffin top off (in more ways than one). Later that day, Marcus & I decided to meet our friends at Six Flags. We decided not to eat anything before the park because we both get a little queasy on the rides these days. Bad idea. After a very twisty Mind Bender ride, our stomachs were not too happy. We needed some carbs, and quick!! We split a giant pretzel. Oops! It was either that or a funnel cake and as Denise always says, it's all about the choices. I guess I could've opted for a turkey leg, but they make me vomit in my mouth when I see them. Still not too bad if it ended there. Wait, there's more :( We left the park around 10pm (after walking many miles I'm sure) and we were STARVING! Wendy's was located directly outside the park. I was instructed by my husband to pull in. I was going to be good and get the chili; but they were all out of chili so I decided to get the buffalo boneless wings. I only at half. Really. When I got home, I took my Omegas and my Healthy Cleanse and went straight to bed before I could do anymore damage.

Day 6 - Sunday Sunday
Day 6 wasn't too bad. It started bad because I was late to church and only had a box of raisins for breakfast. By lunch I was ready to eat a cow. Instead, I had brunswick stew and grilled chicken salad. I wanted a sweet potato, but Tracy thought sweet potatoes were high in carbs so I abstained. I did however have to eat a couple bites of my precious nephew's chicken fingers since he so sweetly offered them to me. After lunch, I decided to take a long nap. I figure if I'm sleeping, I can't eat, so it's the safest activity I can do. I was planning on going to the gym during Desperate Housewives, but my husband suggested I might do some laundry instead. Being the type A personality that I am, that led to cleaning out my closets which took a little longer than expected. Bottom line, no gym, but I didn't eat bad either, so it wasn't a total loss.

Day 7 - Success (somehow)
Day 7 was full of cravings. I found myself eating peanut butter out of the jar with a knife at my desk while on a conference call. Not attractive I'm sure, and a little dangerous since my tongue was licking a serrated knife. I caught myself in what I was doing and quickly stopped before anyone saw me (I think). I didn't quite get in my water today. I need to do better with that. I went to group swim tonight. Before swim, Tracy and I went to weigh in. Time for the truth. The scale doesn't lie. I couldn't believe it!!! 6 lbs!!!! In 7 days!!!! Yay!!!!! Tracy too!!!!! We were so excited!!! I swam my heart out and then I ate a subway sandwich, which hit the spot!! It was worth it. I'm going to get back on complete track tomorrow. No more cheating.

Days 2 & 3

Day 2 was not too bad. I've found that all the water is surprisingly helping me feel full. The water is also sending me to the ladies room quite often. I found myself having to frantically run into a gas station on my way to work on Wednesday, as well as having to excuse myself from a meeting to relieve my bladder.

The water is not the only thing sending me to the ladies room. I think the herbal cleanse is doing it's job. I think my GI issues on a normal day are well known. I had to get off the treadmill twice last night while doing my 45 minute run. To make matters worse, it was one of those small anytime gyms with a one person bathroom. Sorry to my fellow club members.

A definite win for day 2 was that I was able to eat steamed broccoli and carrots without making faces!

Day 3 has been fine so far. I was a little hungrier than I have been the past 2 days. However, I did make good choices for my food (thanks for the continued motivational emails Denise!). I ate broccoli and carrots again tonight, except I did make a few faces this time. I really want Mellow Mushroom pretzels with marinara and pesto. Oh, well. I think I want my flat abs back a little more...maybe.

I had a meeting over lunch today so they ordered lunch in. I panicked a little because I wasn't sure what that would mean I would eat. I found turkey chili on the menu which I didn't think could be that bad. I didn't even eat my saltines that came with the chili. I gave them to Kara. They ordered cookies for us, so I had to look at them during the meeting. After the meeting, I actually smelled the empty cookie bag and it smelled so good! Just smells, no tastes.

I'm going to the gym to do my 1:30 run tonight which I'm not to excited about; however, I'm going during Grey's Anatomy so I'll have something to watch at least. I'm also excited about be able to have a Lara bar since I'm doing more than an hour workout!!! The simple things!

If you read this before 9:00, please say a prayer that the herbal cleanse will hold its magic until after I get off the treadmill :)

Day 1 - 2nd Half

I was tested tonight at small group. It was my leader's birthday and there was not one, but two birthday cakes. The only seat available was the one at the kitchen bar in smelling distance of the white butter cream icing from Publix. Also at arms length was a nice size pumpkin pail filled with chocolate Halloween candy. I bitterly munched on baby carrots and cucumbers dipped in salsa.

I think the only thing that saved me from diving head first into the cake was the delightful oven roasted turkey my precious sister-in-law cooked for me today. I picked it up after work and had 4 slices before I made it home. Who knew plain turkey breast could be so delicious!! Thank you Tracy!

Overall, the day wasn't that bad. I think I should cut my losses and go to bed before I screw something up.

One down, twenty-three to go!!

Day 1 - First Half

Woke up this morning excited to get started! Excited to cleanse my system from all the crap I've been loading into it. Unfortunately, I woke up with a headache. Not good. Started the day with my fiber drink which is a little like orange juice with crumbs from your toast mixed in. Or, like drinking the rest of your shredded wheat cereal milk. Texture is a little weird, but really not that bad. I was so scared to let the mixture sit at all from the warnings that it would congeal, I gulped it as fast as possible, dripping some down my chin and onto the front of my pajamas in the process. It stayed in liquid state, so I considered it a win. Next, I had my Spark, which was super yummy.

My goal was to get up early enough to drink my fiber drink and spark and have time to wait 30 minutes and then sit down for my breakfast. Unfortunately, I hit snooze one too many times and was forced to eat my grapefruit on the way to work. No problem, I'm used to multi-tasking in the car. Surprisingly, I was pretty full from my grapefruit. I like this idea because it sounds like something a waif super model would say after she ate 2 saltines for lunch. I must be on the right track! I also drank more water on the way to work which became a problem around exit 12 on 400. I had to go to the bathroom so bad by the time I got to work, I couldn't even make it to my floor, I had to stop on floor one to use the ladies room.

Probably the biggest hurdle I've had all day was trying to get down hard boiled eggs. I must say that I'm not really a fan. I put salt and pepper on them, but nothing can be done to make them ok. I'm still burping toxic egg fumes. I've apologized to my team who sit near me.

The Night Before

It's Monday night, October 12th. The night before I begin what will probably be the longest 24 days of my life. Ok, that's a little melodramatic, but it will be tough. I'm a recovering sugar addict that needs something extreme to get the sugar out of my system. The extremes seem to work for me. Last year, I got to my heaviest weight and decided to do something serious. I became a vegan for 6 months. I went cold turkey (no pun intended) on meat, dairy, and even sugar for awhile. I lost about 15 pounds. I felt wonderful. I began doing triathlons and was easily in the best shape of my life. Unfortunately, I've gained most of that weight back due to lack of motivation to eat right. My training has decreased, but my diet has not. I've probably gained most of the weight back in the past month.

Thanks to Denise Novicki and her stellar training/motivational/coaching/sensei skills, I will start the Advocare 24 day challenge tomorrow morning. It will start with a 10 day cleanse. No sugar (ugh!), no fried foods (bye Zaxby's), no Diet Coke (hello Spark), no bread (so long Mellow Mushroom pretzels), no wheat products (really?). Yep, just fruit, veggies, and lean protein. Hard boiled eggs (stinky!). Following the cleanse I will start 14 days of good diet with supplemental vitamins. After 24 days, I plan to look pretty hot so watch out for me in my sailboat swimsuit! I'm also looking forward to seeing my partner in crime, my favorite sister-in-law, my good friend Tracy looking as svelte as ever! Goodbye zucchini bread, hello skinny jeans!

Join me on my journey. If I can do it, anybody can do it. The days ahead may not be as positive as this post, but stick with me and I'll keep you up-to-date with my progress.
